Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty (BLEF-uh-roe-plas-tee) is a type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle, and fat.

With age, eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can gather above and below your eyelids. This can cause sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids, and bags under the eyes.

Besides aging, severely sagging skin around the eyes can reduce side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of the visual field. Blepharoplasty can reduce or get rid of these vision problems.

To see if you are a candidate for this surgery, you would start by making a consultation appointment where the doctor will review your medical history and examine your eyes to see if this procedure will improve your vision. This will include:

If you are approved for the surgery, we will work with you to see if your insurance needs prior authorization or approval. Most insurance companies will cover a Blepharoplasty for the upper lids. Lower lid procedures are considered cosmetic by most insurance companies.
