As we age, our eye’s lens continues to add layers. The lens hardens and becomes less clear and your vision becomes cloudy, or blurry. Age-related cataracts are very common and most people will develop cataract at some point.
Other types of cataracts are less common and can be caused by eye trauma, eye diseases, previous eye surgery or can be related to certain congenital issues.
Your ophthalmologist will examine the inside of your eye. If it is determined that you have a cataract, surgery is the only way to remove it. Your doctor will discuss whether moving forward with surgery is the right plan for you.
If you choose to have cataract surgery, your doctor will review the procedure and discuss which lens replacement options are best for you.
